About our Ministry

The children we serve are living through difficult situations. By the time they receive a Sleepy Threads pillowcase, their worlds have been shattered by serious illness, abuse, or the sudden loss of family.

Join us as we share how a simple item provides comfort, security, and hope to these precious children.

How a Pillowcase Feels Like Hope in a Hospital

When a child is admitted to a hospital, strangers decide almost every detail of their life. When they eat, when they sleep, and even what they wear.

In an environment where everything feels out of their control, a personal possession offers a vital sense of familiarity.

Why We Give a Case for Comfort

At Sleepy Threads, we make pillowcases because they act as portable hugs that can go anywhere a hospitalized child goes.

  • More Than a Bed Dressing: Given as a gift, each pillowcase belongs to the child.

  • Intentional Designs: Our volunteers select unique, colorful flannel prints so every child feels special.

  • Medically Safe & Durable: We use high-quality materials and pre-wash and iron every case to meet rigorous hospital clinical guidelines.

A Sense of Stability for Kids in Foster Care

Entering the foster care system is a traumatic transition, and a child's sense of security is difficult to hold on to. Children are frequently moved between homes with little notice. Without suitcases, many are forced to pack all their worldly belongings into trash bags.

For children who own almost nothing, a pillowcase represents a small but vital sense of control.

These Children Look to a Case for Comfort

Children in foster care borrow so much of what they use. We give them something they can keep.

  • Dignity & Identity: Colorful, unique patterns allow children to express themselves as they move through the system.

  • A Source of Strength: This personal possession becomes a tangible reminder of belonging, strength, and the truth that God sees them and cares about their future.

Meet a Sleepy Threads Kid

Sharing the personal journeys of the children we serve is a rare privilege. We have an obligation to protect the privacy of these children and their families. However, when we have permission to share a Sleepy Threads kid's experience, we are profoundly grateful for the opportunity. Today, we would like to introduce you to two of our Sleepy Threads Kids, twin sisters we will call “Daisy” and “Rose.” Daisy and Rose are foster-adopted twins who have been fighters since their very first breath. Born as 24-week micro-preemies, the girls live with chronic lung disease. While their mother, “J”, is usually able to manage their medical care at home, their condition makes them incredibly vulnerable. For most families, a common cold is a minor inconvenience; for Daisy and Rose, it is a medical crisis that often leads to an emergency trip to the hospital. For these twins, visits to the Pediatric ICU have become common, but they are still terrifying. While every bout with the cold is difficult, rarely are both girls in the ICU at the same time. So a trip to the hospital isolates one of the girls from her sister, often leaving her anxious and withdrawn. When the staff brings in a Sleepy Threads pillowcase, it can change the whole atmosphere of the room. For the twins, the impact is often immediate. In a sterile, scary room, the soft, colorful flannel breaks up the monotony and makes a clinical space feel a little more homey. One time, Rose was too ill to notice her surroundings when the pillowcase was first delivered, but as she began to heal, that bright, soft fabric became her most prized possession. For parents like J, the pillowcase is a powerful symbol of comfort during a very stressful time. It serves as a tangible reminder that the family is not alone. When the family is back home, the pillowcases become a symbol of the twins’ strength and a happy reminder of the challenges they have overcome. For Daisy and Rose in particular, the pillowcase ministry makes their hospital visits less scary. In the chaos of the ICU, they have something to look forward to. It has become normal to hear them asking their mom, or one of the nurses, when they will receive their next pillowcase.

The Impact of a Tangible Hug:

  • For the Twins: The soft fabric brings immediate comfort. When Rose was too ill to notice her surroundings, the bright flannel became her most prized possession as she began to heal. Now, the girls look forward to their visits, asking nurses when they will receive their next case.

  • For the Parents: For J, the pillowcase is a powerful symbol of comfort during a stressful time. It's a tangible reminder that her family is not alone.

  • Back at Home: Once discharged, the pillowcases transition into symbols of the twins' strength and happy reminders of the challenges they have overcome.
